NBA star Michael Porter Jr. is no stranger to challenges off the court, and this includes legal troubles within his family. With that being said, he has a strong reliance on faith to keep himself humble.
Porter, who was traded to the Brooklyn Nets (along with an unprotected 2032 first-round draft selection) from the Denver Nuggets for small forward Cam Johnson back in June, recently kept it real while speaking on his YouTube about his battles, his faith and he also got on the gambling scandal surrounding his brother Jontay Porter, which led to him being banned for life from the league.
“Everybody has different things that they struggle with. That can go from people who struggle with alcohol to people who struggle with drugs. My brother, for example, struggled with gambling,” shared Porter Jr.

This isn’t the first time that Porter Jr. has openly supported his brother since his gambling allegations surfaced.
“I’ve known my brother my whole life. I know what type of dude he is and I know he’s excited to play basketball, and I highly doubt he would do anything to put that in jeopardy,” said Porter Jr. in Mar. 2024, per OutKick. It’s admitted by Porter Jr. that he has vices of his own, and that they’re different from his brother’s. With that being said though, he says they still keep him away from God, which is a big no-no for the 27-year-old.
“When I’m far from God, when I’m not reading the Word, not praying, not prioritizing Him, that’s where the devil seems to get me,” said Porter Jr. “I’ve never seen it as okay, though. I don’t think objectifying women or sleeping around is cool.”
