Democrats aren’t Americans, so I find this incredibly fitting.
Mikie Sherrill, the governor of New Jersey, was hammered with boos from fans in attendance at Wednesday’s game between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres at the Prudential Center.
The contest saw the NHL comeback of Team USA’s Jack Hughes, the Olympic hero who scored the game-winning goal against Canada to bring home the gold medal Sunday.
Sherrill was at the game to welcome the return of Hughes, as well as other players who competed in the Olympics, however, when the PA spokesperson announced her as a part of the ceremonial puck drop, the crowd in Newark blasted her with boos. And not just for her, but also her husband Jason Hedberg. (RELATED: Team USA Hockey’s Olympic Gold Medal Victory Brings In Largest Pre-9AM Ratings Of All-Time)
Despite the boos, Sherrill posted on social media pictures of her celebrating the gold medal with Hughes and other players. In response, Sherrill suffered mockery, with many pointing out that she was hit with boos — very loud boos.
“You managed to somehow get booed loudly during the most festive thing at the Rock ever,” wrote one user on Twitter.
“Didn’t everyone boo you?” wrote another.
A piece of history was brought back to Jersey tonight.
Congratulations to the men and women of @usahockey on bringing home gold – and @njdevils’ own Jack Hughes for scoring the Golden Goal. Keep making Jersey proud. pic.twitter.com/ski5hP197E
