A new video shows a DoorDash driver’s detour to the tarmac at Chicago O’Hare International Airport last month as he attempted to deliver food to someone inside the airport.
The video, obtained by multiple news outlets, shows a red Hyundai Elantra pulling up beside a parked United Airlines plane at O’Hare’s Terminal 1 on May 17.
According to a report seen by WGN-TV, the driver told police he entered a restricted area of the airport through a gate in the southeastern section of the airport and followed his GPS coordinates to deliver food.
The private security guard operating the gate, working for a contractor, told police that while she did think the Elantra’s appearance at her gate was strange, she let him through and didn’t contact or notify airport operations or her supervisor, according to WGN-TV.
At the time, the Chicago Department of Aviation said “there were no operational disruptions or safety incidents reported, and the area was promptly swept by [the Chicago Police Department] and Aviation Security personnel out of an abundance of caution,” according to WLS-TV.
The Chicago Police Department did not issue a criminal citation for the driver, according to WLS-TV.
The security guard was fired by her employer and her airport security credentials were revoked, aviation department spokesperson Kevin Bargnes told WGN-TV.
