Newsom’s office quick to set record straight on who runs his social media

Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to include clarifications from Director of Communications Izzy Gardon.

Debate over who is running the “Governor Newsom Press Office” account has been officially settled.

If you are one of those people who don’t live on social media, or who are perhaps unfamiliar with the leftist side of X, you may not be familiar with the kind of shenanigans that have been going on with the “official account for the press office of [California Governor] Gavin Newsom.”

Yeah, it’s pretty bad.

One X user pointed the finger at Camille Zapata:

“Say hello to Camille Zapata, the genius behind Gavin Newsom’s social media posts. She leads a team of 3, brilliant peeps trolling 47 by mimicking his words & poor grammar. Love their spirit, their feistiness and their ability to sound exactly like Donny. They. Don’t. Back. Down,” the user writes.

However, Izzy Gardon, Director of Communications for the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, disputes this characterization.

“Camille plays a valuable role in some of our office’s digital content, but she does not manage our entire operation and is not responsible for any of the posts cited in your piece,” reads an email sent in response to this article’s publication.

“The Governor’s social media presence is produced by a group of staffers. Specifically, Camille helps manage the ‘CAGovernor’ account — she does not manage ‘GovPressOffice,’ ‘GavinNewsom,’ or other accounts associated with the Governor,” it continues. “While I understand the appeal of identifying one ‘person’ behind this week’s viral, ‘Trump-style’ posts, the truth is those posts are the product of Governor Gavin Newsom himself, along with a group of staffers assisting him. That does not include Camille.”

With that being settled, debate over whether this is the best strategy to take on Trump still rages.

Worst strategy ever. They never once mention how any of this pettiness benefits Californians in any way.

Copying isn’t brilliant. The only reason it receives any attention is bc libs are starving for something, anything that resembles positive momentum. Also, look at the engagement it’s nonexistent compared to other the large accounts.
