Nine-Year-Old Killed in Chicago Train Station Attack, Suspect Released

A Chicago man with a felony record who has been charged in the death of a 9-year-old boy during a train station incident was released from jail Monday as he awaits trial, as reported by The New York Post.

Michael Korosa, 52, is facing a felony involuntary manslaughter charge after the death of Elijah Flores on August 10. Flores was under the supervision of 22-year-old Jonah Soria, who was dating the boy’s mother, when the incident occurred on the Green Line.

According to FOX 32 Chicago, Soria pushed Flores onto the train platform before robbing a man of cash and fleeing. Flores attempted to follow but struggled to keep pace. Witnesses reported that Soria placed Flores on his shoulders during the escape attempt.

As the pair reached the top of a staircase, Korosa caught up and allegedly struck Soria with a cane. The blow caused both Soria and Flores to fall down the stairs. Flores struck his head on the pavement, and Soria landed on top of him.

Soria then picked up Flores and boarded another train. Witnesses said the boy became unresponsive. A bystander called 911, and Flores was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Korosa was arrested on August 30 and charged with involuntary manslaughter as well as felony aggravated battery on a transit employee. Despite those charges, he was released on Monday pending trial.

Court records show that Korosa has an extensive criminal history. In 2020, he was convicted of cutting a Walgreens security guard with a box cutter and served two years in prison.

Jail records also indicate that three days after the August 10 train station incident, Korosa was arrested again on separate charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Soria has not been charged in connection with Flores’ death but was later arrested on an outstanding warrant related to retail theft and battery in another county.

It remains unclear whether Korosa currently has legal representation. Fox News Digital reported it had reached out to the Chicago Police Department and the public defender’s office for comment.

The case adds to mounting concerns over crime in Chicago, where shootings and homicides remain high. On Monday, President Donald Trump addressed the issue directly, citing a violent weekend in the city.

“At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, 8 people were killed. The last two weekends were similar. Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the World, by far,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesn’t know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, and soon. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
