Most of us could only dream of finding someone to love us as much as Brian Stelter loves National Public Radio.
NPR is suing President Donald Trump, claiming that his executive order cutting all funding to the broadcaster is unconstitutional. In the lawsuit, they say the action “threatens the existence of [the] public radio system that millions of Americans across the country rely on.”
Trump’s order “expressly aims to punish and control Plaintiffs’ news coverage and other speech the Administration deems ‘biased,’” say the attorneys representing the affected news outlets. “It cannot stand.”
Stelter has latched onto this story and is going to bat for NPR.
NPR filed a First Amendment lawsuit against the Trump admin this morning, alleging that Trump’s order to defund NPR is a “clear violation of the Constitution.”
In Trump’s first term, I would not have expected to write that ☝️ In Trump’s second term, it was just a matter of time.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting already filed its own lawsuit against Trump’s attempt to fire three of its board members. A ruling in that case is expected soon. PBS has also been preparing to take legal action but has not yet filed anything.

“The lawsuit says Trump’s order violates both ‘the expressed will of Congress and the First Amendment’s bedrock guarantees of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of association,’” he continued. “The Corporation for Public Broadcasting already filed its own lawsuit against Trump’s attempt to fire three of its board members. X users had a lot to say:
Where does it say the government will provide funding to any media outlet in the Constitution?

As a taxpayer I don’t want to pay for them. It needs to stop.

I thought the amount of money NPR gets from the government was just so minuscule, there’s no point in even talking about it.
Funny how they’re now trying to force the government to continue the funding, even though it’s just SO LITTLE as to be essentially unnoticeable.

Wow! So the second amendment must say that taxpayer money can buy everyone guns!

I love the part of the constitution where it says we must fund a very liberal media org pretending to be straight news
