NYPD Ambushed by Illegal Alien Gang in Times Square—12-Year-Old Involved [WATCH]

Eleven teenage members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua are under investigation in connection with an alleged ambush on two NYPD officers in Times Square Friday night, law enforcement sources told Fox News.

Five suspects have been arrested so far. All are illegal aliens from Venezuela.

The suspects allegedly threw glass bottles, basketballs, and other objects at police officers who were attempting to break up a robbery near 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

The youngest involved is just 12 years old.

One suspect is being charged as an adult for riot and assault.

Two others were reportedly released to their migrant parents.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the assault as a “targeted attack,” stating the officers were “ambushed” while responding to what appeared to be a group robbery.

“This was a planned, deliberate act,” Tisch said. “They were pelted with scooters, basketballs, and other makeshift weapons. Our officers are okay, and our investigation was fast, effective, and focused.”

Police said the attackers are affiliated with a subset of the Tren de Aragua gang known as Los Diablos de 42.

Several are listed in the NYPD’s gang database, which helped officers quickly identify them following the attack.

Mayor Eric Adams condemned the incident and pushed back against claims that the suspects are too young to face serious consequences.

“It’s horrific enough to be a victim of a crime,” Adams said at a Tuesday press conference.

“But when someone openly assaults a police officer, you are attacking our symbol of safety, and it cannot be tolerated.”

Adams also expressed frustration with elected officials’ silence on other recent violent incidents, referencing the case of a grandmother killed by a stray bullet in Harlem.

“Did one elected talk about that?” he asked.

“Do these innocent people matter?”

Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects.

“@DHSgov and our law enforcement partners will hunt down these cowards and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” McLaughlin posted on X. “Secretary Noem will not stand idly by as our brave law enforcement is attacked.”

Former acting ICE Director and current Border Czar Tom Homan criticized sanctuary city policies, citing the incident as an example of the dangers posed by non-cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.

“If you’re brazen enough to attack an armed law enforcement officer, you’re much more dangerous to an unarmed civilian,” Homan said on Fox News.

As of Tuesday, five suspects had been taken into custody.

Tisch stated three were arrested the day after the attack, all with prior ties to robbery patterns across the city.

A fourth suspect turned himself in Sunday, and the fifth—a 16-year-old repeat offender—was arrested Tuesday morning.

Charges against the suspects include attempted felony assault, inciting a riot, and reckless endangerment.

One adult, identified as 19-year-old Yeferxon Jose Mijares Hernandez, was arrested Sunday and faces several charges including second-degree riot and attempted assault.

According to NYPD, the attack occurred just before 7:30 p.m., minutes before a major boxing match featuring Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero at a nearby venue.

Police say the suspects fled eastbound on 42nd Street after hurling objects at officers.

No injuries were reported.

The NYPD continues to search for three additional suspects and has requested public assistance in identifying them.

Officials say all suspects are known to police and have been tied to dozens of prior robberies since 2022. Despite repeated arrests, they have continually been released back into the community.

Tisch expressed concern that efforts by the City Council to abolish the gang database could hinder future investigations.

“It absolutely defies common sense that our City Council is looking to abolish this,” she said.
