Obama assails Trump over ‘inherently corrupting’ National Guard deployment to Chicago

Barack Obama assailed President Donald J. Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago, stating that it is “inherently corrupting” for presidents to unleash the military “against their own people.”

The former president waded into the pitched battle to prevent Trump from using the National Guard to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from violent left-wing mobs in the Windy City, a measure that has sadly become necessary as Democrat leaders vow to resist the enforcement of federal immigration laws and allow violent criminals to run roughshod.

During an interview on the latest episode of leftist Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast that dropped on Monday morning, the nation’s 44th president has “weakened” democracy since taking office and suggested that the National Guard deployments are a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which limits a president from using the military on domestic soil.

“When you have a military that can direct force against their own people, that is inherently corrupting. And so when you now start seeing the politicization of the military — deliberately, right—,” Obama said, according to a partial transcript of the interview published by left-leaning political news outlet Mediaite.

“They just landed in Chicago!” Maron declared.

Obama countined, “When you have what looks like a deliberate end run around not just a concept but a law that’s been around for a long time, Posse Comitatus, that says you don’t use our military on domestic soil unless there is an extraordinary emergency of some sort; that when you see an administration suggest that ordinary street crime is an insurrection or—”

“A terrorist attack,” Maron said, finishing his sentence.

“A terrorist attack,” the former president continued, “That is a genuine effort to weaken how we have understood democracy.”

Obama also invoked the “our democracy” slogan that serves as a cloak for the nefarious agenda of the modern Democratic Party by wrapping its wanton disregard for the law and longstanding norms in the language of lofty ideals.

“I think there is no doubt that a lot of the norms, civic habits, expectations, [and] institutional guardrails that we had — that we took for granted — for our democracy have been weakened deliberately,” he said, according to Mediaite. “I don’t think they’re destroyed, but I think they have been damaged, and [the Trump Administration has] been systematic about it.”

In an August 28 post to X, Obama declared, “The erosion of basic principles like due process and the expanding use of our military on domestic soil puts the liberties of all Americans at risk, and should concern democrats and republicans alike,” sharing a link to an “The Ezra Klein Show” discussion claiming that “Trump Is Building His Own Paramilitary Force.”

Trump hasn’t taken invoking the Insurrection Act off the table in Antifa-occupied Portland, and Chicago could also be a prime candidate.

“There has to be a rebellion. There has to be an insurrection in order for him to be allowed to invoke it. Again, he can say anything he wants. But if the Constitution means anything — and I guess we are all questioning that right now, but the courts will make the determination — if the Constitution means anything, the Insurrection Act cannot be invoked to send them in because they want to fight crime,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday morning.
