The lead pastor of Stevendale Baptist Church in Baton Rouge claims he was fired over refusing to use “preferred pronouns.”
Pastor Luke Ash alleges that he lost his job at the local library in early July for being unwilling to “use preferred pronouns” during a conversation at work. He said that the co-worker he was talking to “corrected” him over a trainee’s preference, but the pastor was not going to participate in using such language.
“The next day, I was reprimanded by my supervisor and the head of reference, and Thursday morning, I was fired.”
“I said, I’m not going to lie.”

When asked if his former employer had given him the option to use the person’s preferred pronouns, Ash confirmed that they had, but that he refused because he didn’t want to “lie.”
This went on to catch the attention of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice Harmeet Dhillon, who appeared to be shocked by the termination.

It is unclear if Dhillon’s recognition of the video implies that an investigation is coming down the pipeline.
