Police Officer Dies In Line Of Duty In Atlanta Shooting

A Georgia police officer was killed in the line of duty when a gunman started firing at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters in Atlanta, police said.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Officer David Rose who was tragically killed in the line of duty,” the DeKalb County Police Department posted on Facebook. “Officer Rose served DeKalb County with courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication. Even in the face of danger was he diligent in his duty to protect our community. We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Rose’s family, friends, fellow DeKalb County officers, and law enforcement community during this most difficult time.”

Rose, 33, leaves behind his pregnant wife and two children.

Starting at 5:33 p.m. Friday, Emory University in Georgia began issuing active shooter alerts on its X profile, urging students to shelter in place and avoid the area. (RELATED: Active Shooter Reportedly At Emory University’s Atlanta Campus)

The shooting occurred at Emory University’s Atlanta campus near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Late Friday night, university officials said they were still working to verify facts about the active shooter.

Emory University officials said Saturday morning that the school would have more of a police presence in the area.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Saturday that Patrick Joseph White, 30, of Kennesaw, Ga. is the suspected shooter.
