Prince Andrew now under investigation for allegedly asking bodyguard to obtain dirt on his accuser

Metropolitan Police are reportedly investigating Prince Andrew for allegedly trying to use a taxpayer-funded bodyguard to obtain personal information about a Jeffrey Epstein victim.

On Sunday, The Daily Mail reported that leaked emails indicate that the disgraced former royal “passed Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s date of birth and her Social Security number to his bodyguard and suggested she might have a criminal record in the U.S,” according to Fox News.

The dates on the emails indicate they were sent mere hours before the infamous photo depicting Andrew looking very friendly with the young Giuffre was published for the world to see. There is no indication that the guard ever acted on the request, and Giuffre’s family says she never had any arrest history.

“We are aware of media reporting and are actively looking into the claims made,” said a Met spokesperson, giving a statement to the Guardian.

On Friday, Andrew officially ceased using his royal titles as the pressure surrounding his ties to Epstein continues to grow. The decision came after a “discussion” with King Charles.

“In discussion with the king, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded that the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the royal family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life,” reads the statement. “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

This means he will no longer be utilizing his Duke of York title, but will still be called “Prince” due to being the son of a queen. He also technically retains his “dukedom” as such a change would actually take an act of parliament.

“It’s absolutely not the way that close protection officers should be used,” said U.K. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who called the allegations “deeply concerning.”

Friends and family of Giuffre, who tragically took her own life, have been urging the government to remove Andrew’s title of prince, which could be done “if a letters patent was issued by the king.” according to the Guardian.

“On Friday Giuffre’s brother Sky Roberts told BBC Two’s Newsnight his sister would have been ‘very proud’ of the latest development regarding Prince Andrew, but that he would like the king to go a step further and ‘take out the prince in the Andrew’.”
