Prince George’s authorities seeking man accused of putting incendiary device near fire station

Prince George’s fire and police officials are looking for a man they accuse of placing an improvised incendiary device near a fire station in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

A man was caught on video putting a bottle on concrete outside Fire Station 805 in Capitol Heights and another inside a mailbox outside the station on Aug. 13. No one was injured, police said.

“Prince George’s County fire department’s bomb squad responded, rendered the devices safe and recovered them for evidence,” Caroll Spriggs, assistant chief of Prince George’s County Fire and EMS, told the Washington area’s WRC-TV.

The incident was not the first time the station was targeted. County officials said incendiary devices were placed there three times in the past few months.

The police posted the video footage of the suspect on YouTube and posted pictures of him at an unspecified Metrorail station.

The suspect appeared to be a man wearing a blue jacket with white sleeves and various graphics on it, including characters from the “Tom and Jerry” cartoon. A reward of $7,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect, police said.

Authorities believe station 805 was specifically targeted, though they don’t know what, if any, motive the suspect may have had.

“The way I see it, he was trying to intimidate the people who work here, and that’s why we think it’s a grave threat,” Charles Doerrer, special agent in charge of the Baltimore Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told WRC-TV. The ATF is assisting the investigation.
