Pritzker rails against ICE ‘jackbooted thugs’ in more incitement from Dems

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has made it clear that he is not interested in toning down the rhetoric, even as federal agents are being targeted by violence.

He is none too happy about President Donald Trump’s administration enforcing federal immigration law in his neck of the woods, calling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents “jackbooted thugs” who want to “unleash a s**tshow” in a local community.

“In Broadview, people nonviolently holding signs and chanting against brutality, expressing their First Amendment rights, have been regularly attacked with chemical agents like tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and flash bangs. Agents reportedly unholstered their guns and pointed them at protesters. In their own words, ICE intended to unleash a s*itshow in the Broadview community. Without provocation and acting like jackbooted thugs, ICE has attacked and detained members of the press, including an independent journalist. A CBS Chicago correspondent had chemical munitions fired at her car, where there were no protesters in sight. And we have received many reports of U.S. citizens being detained for simply stepping onto the public street,” he charged.

Pritzker also spoke out against the administration giving the green light to send troops to his state after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sent a letter requesting “the deployment of 100 military troops to Illinois, claiming a need for the protection of ICE personnel and facilities,” according to Politico.

“It’s a pretext for bringing troops into the city and normalizing the militarization of our cities, and we just won’t allow that,” the governor claimed during a press conference.

“You cannot call this anything except an attack on the Constitution of the United States,” he said later, addressing Trump’s actions.

Pritzker also expressed concern for everyday residents who he says are “scared” of law enforcement.

“Our small businesses suffer when our residents and visitors who are shopping and eating are made to feel unsafe by the jackbooted thugs roaming around a peaceful downtown. Parents are now scared to send their kids to school, for fear the troops will grab their children. Students are afraid they’ll come home and find their parents have been disappeared by ICE. This is no way to live,” he claimed.

“Enough is enough. The Department of Justice will stand strong when federal law enforcement officers are attacked or threatened for doing their sworn duty,” reads a memo from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, indicating that her office will not treat violent and lawbreaking protesters with kid gloves.
