Hockey at its peak, ladies and gentlemen! HOCKEY. AT. ITS. PEAK.
The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning didn’t just give us a Stadium Series game Sunday, they also gave us the rare jewel of hockey fights: a goalie brawl.
In the second period, Tampa Bay might have been facing a 5-2 deficit, but the Bolts caught a bottle of … momentum, you didn’t think I was going to use a corny electricity pun did you?
Anyways, Tampa went into a power play. Brandon Hagel, a forward for the Lightning, ended up having an opportunity for a tip-in, but Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman shut it down and covered the puck. The play was ultimately blown dead by the referee, however, Hagel kept choppin’. Needless to say, Swayman wasn’t happy about it, with the goalie lunging at Hagel like he wanted to beat him into Tuesday three weeks from now.
From there, everybody got involved, but things really got special when Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy went to center ice to issue a challenge to Swayman.
Challenge accepted — and with no hesitation at that. Swayman went to center, and just wait until you see this rare jewel, folks!

I ended up waking up in the middle of the night, couldn’t go back to sleep, and I’m currently freezing my you know what off with this Arctic air blasting Florida, but it’s kind of cool … I feel like a real hockey journalist writing this while my house feels like a rink.
Corny as hell, I know, but I’m just riding the magic of hockey. Damn, I love this game.
