Re-Elected Labour Mayor Slams Own Party for Tax Rises and Winter Fuel Cut

Re-elected Ros Jones – mayor since 2013 – hit out at Starmer for the winter fuel cut, telling the BBC she wrote to the PM at the time:

“I said it was wrong and therefore I stepped in immediately to use our household support fund to ensure no one in Doncaster went cold during the winter.“

She said central government should now be “listening to the man, woman and businesses on the street.” Tax rises are in the firing line too:

“The people of Doncaster know how hard life can be. I think they [the government] need to look again as putting up the cost of national insurance is hitting some of the smaller businesses and of course the PIP which many people are worried about now.“

Both decisions down to the Chancellor. Reeves will be feeling the heat…
