Rachel Reeves and her team blew tens of thousands of pounds on a short trip to South Africa this year. The Chancellor flew to the country in February for a two-day trip to attend some G20 finance ministerial meetings. The total bill for those flight tickets alone was a whopping £42,727.80. Reeves flew business both ways of course…

The accommodation the team stayed in must have been nice seeing as details have been blocked: “Disclosure of accommodation details may enable hostile actors to more effectively plan and carry out disruptive events that target said locations and endanger the safety of individuals present.” The Treasury also attempted to block the release of the flight information, obtained via Guido’s FoI Unit, before eventually releasing it after some months.
