Late yesterday Rachel Reeves formally appointed her ex-Chief of Staff and soon-to-be peer Katie Martin as the ‘Business Adviser to the Chancellor.’ Here’s some free access to government and the Civil Service…
Martin will work for four days per week in the Treasury without remuneration and is appointed on a one-year initial contract. A quick glance at Martin’s actual career shows up zero business expertise whatever: She has worked as Chief of Staff to Reeves for half a decade and enjoyed a smattering of short-lived communications-oriented private sector roles prior to that. This followed over seven years as a Civil Service press officer in the noughties…
The access role will compliment Martin’s new peerage – she is due to be sworn in to the House of Lords as part of Starmer’s strategy to stuff the upper house with cronies shortly.
