Rachel Reeves is giving a speech explaining why the budget is going to come back for more tax rises. No Chancellors do this with so few days before their budgets…
She tweeted a few minutes ago:
“The Budget this month will focus squarely on the priorities of the British people: cutting waiting lists, cutting the national debt and cutting the cost of living.
Today I will set out the choices our country faces and the values that will guide my decisions.”
Reeves reaching for the NHS panic lever is instructive. Winter is coming…
UPDATE:
- Reeves characterises the first budget as a “cash injection,” also blames supply chain volatility and global inflation in the year since.
- The OBR will score productivity low. Reeves blames the Tories.
- Also blames “a rushed and ill-conceived Brexit.”
