How vital is prayer! I became a Christian by praying. Almost my first act after becoming a Christian was to thank God in prayer. In this article I want to concentrate on this vital topic, particularly private prayer.
On becoming a Christian in 1976, I soon discovered the joy of praying with other Christians, but I also discovered that there were different ways that people prayed.
Some (usually men) prayed long prayers that often covered the same themes. Some (usually women) prayed shorter prayers that were more personal. Some used language that I would not use in everyday life. Some prayed as though they were talking to their best friend. As a young Christian, I wondered how I should pray.
