A high school football star was recently killed in Woodland Park, Colorado, after authorities said a tree branch fell on him, according to local news outlet KRDO Wednesday.
Aiden Hernandez, a 19-years-old recent graduate of Woodland Park High School, died on May 29, according to KRDO.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (ESPO) responded to a work accident on May 29 on 9500 Escondido Road, the outlet report.
ESPO said a tree branch fell on Hernandez, but other details surrounding his death are unclear, KRDO said.
Officers administered CPR to Hernandez before pronouncing him dead at the scene, according to KRDO.
Hernandez’s former football coach Chad Drummond reacted to his death, saying the news “dropped [him] to the floor.”
“It dropped me to the floor,” Drummond told KRDO. “I don’t know if I’ve still accepted it.”
Drummond also remembered Hernandez as an “incredible young man.”
“Incredible young man, great energy, A smile that would just melt your heart. Very intense. Very driven young man, even from an early age,” Drummond told KRDO of his former football player. (RELATED: Footage Captures Tourists Scrambling To Escape As Boat Capsizes)
Drummond described the loss as “catastrophic” for Hernandez’s family, according to Live 5 News.
“You will not find a closer family from the time he was little until he graduated. Which is why my heart breaks for this family. It is absolutely a catastrophic loss,” he said.
Besides his family, Hernandez is survived by his girlfriend who is pregnant with their son, Live 5 News reported.
Hernandez would have turned 20 on June 12, according to his obituary.
