Report sheds light on why Tulsi Gabbard may have ended up in Trump’s doghouse

A new report may shed some light on why Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard appears to have ended up in President Donald J. Trump’s doghouse as he mulls committing the United States to another war in the Middle East.

According to Politico, the president became “incensed” with the former Democrat congresswoman, who broke with her former party’s warmongering authoritarianism to endorse him, over what was described as an “unauthorized video” that she posted to social media last week.

In the cryptic three-minute clip in which she talked about visiting the Japanese city of Hiroshima that was leveled by an atomic bomb during World War II, Gabbard said that “political elite and warmongers” are “carelessly fomenting fear and tensions between nuclear powers” and that it has the world “on the brink of nuclear annihilation.”

“Trump saw the unauthorized video and became incensed, complaining to associates at the White House that she had spoken out of turn, according to three people familiar with the episode — two of them inside the administration and all granted anonymity to describe sensitive dynamics,” the outlet claimed, relying on the usual anonymous sources that are now a fixture of nearly all mainstream media reporting in America.

“I don’t think he dislikes Tulsi as a person … But certainly the video made him not super hot on her … and he doesn’t like it when people are off message,” one unnamed source said to be a senior administration official was quoted.

The official “added that Trump also doesn’t appreciate it when people appear to be correcting him” and that “many took that video as trying to correct the administration’s position,” according to Politico.

A question from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about Gabbard’s congressional testimony that Iran wasn’t close to having nuclear weapons drew a dismissive response from Trump.

“I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one,” he said onboard Air Force One early Tuesday morning, throwing his own head of national intelligence under the bus after being intensely lobbied by Iran hawks, including Fox News host Mark Levin, who are demanding that he drag the country into another forever war.

The president has “just been kind of down on her in general,” Politico quoted a source described as “one of the people familiar with Gabbard’s interactions with the White House,” and that Trump thinks she “doesn’t add anything to any conversation.”

Gabbard’s video comes at a time of fierce debate about going to war in Iran that threatens to fracture Trump’s MAGA coalition, which until now has been indestructible.

A Gabbard ally however dismissed any suggestions of a riff between the DNI and her boss and according to Politico, said “that she is fully on board with what Trump is trying to do with Iran, and said she has never let her personal views color the advice she provides to the president — nor has she tried to sway Trump to her own point of view.”

Trump “has full confidence in his entire exceptional national security team” and insisted that “efforts by the legacy media to sow internal division are a distraction that will not work,” said White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, who is quoted by Politico.

“Tulsi Gabbard is a veteran, a patriot, a loyal supporter of President Trump, and a critical part of the coalition he built in 2024,” Vice President JD Vance said in a statement.
