RFK Jr Blasts AOC and Bernie Sanders as Trump Takes on Big Pharma Oligarchs [WATCH]

President Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order on Monday aimed at reducing the cost of prescription drugs for Americans, marking a major policy shift that drew praise from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

During a morning press conference at the White House, Kennedy described the order as a long-overdue move and an “extraordinary day” for American consumers.

The order comes after years of promises from political leaders across the aisle to bring down drug prices — promises Kennedy said were never fulfilled.

“This was the fulcrum of Bernie Sanders’ runs for presidency, that he was going to eliminate this discrepancy between Europe and the United States,” Kennedy said.

“As it turns out, none of them were doing it. It’s one of these promises that politicians make to their constituents, knowing that they’ll never have to do it.”

Kennedy, who has served as HHS Secretary under Trump since early 2025, cited the outsized influence of the pharmaceutical industry as a primary reason why previous efforts failed.

“Congress is controlled in so many ways by the pharmaceutical industry,” Kennedy said, explaining that pharmaceutical companies spend “three times what the next-largest lobbyist spends on lobbying.”

Kennedy described the issue of prescription drug pricing as “radioactive,” noting that many lawmakers avoided addressing it due to the political risks and the influence of industry lobbyists.

“Nobody wanted to do anything because it was radioactive. They knew you couldn’t get it by Congress,” he said.

He went on to praise President Trump for taking direct executive action, calling him “a man of his word” and highlighting what he described as Trump’s independence from corporate and political pressures.

“We now have a president who is a man of his word, who has the courage,” Kennedy said.

“He can’t be bought, unlike most of the politicians in this country. And he is standing here for the American people.”

Kennedy also responded to criticism from some political commentators who have questioned Trump’s position in relation to large corporate interests.

“There’s writers … who are saying that President Trump is on this side of the oligarchs. There has never been a president more willing to stand up to the oligarchs than President Donald Trump,” he said.

Turning personal, Kennedy shared that members of his own family were moved by the announcement.

“I have a couple of kids who are Democrats, are big Bernie Sanders fans, and when I told them that this was going to happen, they had tears in their eyes,” he said.

“They thought, this is never going to happen in our lifetime. And we finally have a president who’s willing to stand up for the American people.”

The new executive order is expected to significantly lower the cost of prescription drugs in the United States by targeting pharmaceutical pricing practices and increasing price transparency.

On Sunday, President Trump previewed the action on Truth Social, writing that “Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%.”

The order represents one of the administration’s most direct efforts to confront pharmaceutical industry pricing and is expected to face both political and legal scrutiny in the weeks ahead.
