Robert Strivens lectures on historical approaches to ministry training among Calvinistic Baptist colleges

The Strict Baptist Historical Society annual lecture was given by Robert Strivens in March. His subject was ‘Training for Ministry in Calvinistic Baptist Colleges 1700–1900’.

The first Baptist college to be established was the Bristol Baptist Academy in 1720, with Bernard Foskett as principal until 1758. Baptists were divided on the question of the usefulness of human learning for ministry.
