One of the most shocking revelations in the “Big, Beautiful” bill was that the federal government was paying for so-called “gender affirming care” for impoverished Americans.
The reconciliation budget, which passed the House early Thursday, included a much-needed cut to Medicaid funding. Unbeknownst to most Americans, the federal government, through the Medicaid program, funded “gender transition procedures.” This included so-called “gender-affirming” surgeries like breast and chest procedures, genital reconstructive procedures, and other facial and cosmetic surgical procedures.
If passed in the Senate, the new bill would strip the funding for these barbarities.
“A 2023 study by gynecologists from Columbia [& USC,] revealed that a staggering 25% of so-called ‘gender-affirming’ surgeries in the United States are covered by Medicaid.”
That’s right: The government has been sterilizing poor people.
The Big Beautiful Bill just banned this.

The JAMA Network published a study released in 2023 detailing the increase in transgender patients receiving surgery, which revealed that over 25% of these patients paid for their surgeries with Medicaid funds. (Sign up for Mary Rooke’s weekly newsletter here!)
The bill was reportedly supposed to prevent Medicaid from covering these procedures for children at first, but the final version removes the funding for all “gender-affirming” services for adults and children. The federal government is making it known that it will no longer be in the business of mutilating bodies in service of the left’s new religion: transgender ideology.
Finally, America once again has a president who will mark Women’s History Month by honoring actual women.
“No matter how many surgeries you have, or chemicals you inject, if you are born with male DNA in every cell of your body, you can never become a woman.”

Considering what we know about how transgender ideology latches on to the most vulnerable in our society, the idea that the federal government was ever funding the systematic mutilation and permanent sterilization of low-income Americans is nothing short of evil. After four years of the Biden administration working in tandem with left-wing activists to further the codification of this insidious ideology, it is relieving to watch Republicans and the Trump administration reverse course.
