New intake MPs Jack Rankin and Harriet Cross were asked at an Onward panel at Tory Conference which parliamentarians they admire most. Rankin had an interesting take:
“I don’t know how popular this will be but Rupert Lowe has significantly pulled the Overton Window when it comes to immigration, deportation, and he says stuff that is fruitier than my views and my language, but he is giving in a sense the Conservative Party licence to move into a certain space… he’s also aware that he’s in a position where he can do that.”
Apart from Lowe, Rankin named Tory MP Katie Lam and the smattering of Labour MPs in the Labour Growth Group. He described the rest of the Labour 2024 intake as “dross”…
