San Jose Restaurant Patio Beating Investigated As a Possible Antisemitic Hate Crime [WATCH]

Police in San Jose are investigating a violent confrontation at a popular shopping and dining district after two men were beaten during an incident authorities say may involve antisemitic language, as reported by The New York Post.

The assault occurred Sunday at Santana Row, a well-known upscale shopping and entertainment area in San Jose, California. Video footage of the attack circulated online and shows multiple men striking a person who had fallen to the ground.

According to reports from KTVU, the confrontation happened on the sidewalk patio area outside Augustine restaurant. The footage shows three men wearing black T-shirts repeatedly punching someone while the individual is down on the ground.

Witnesses nearby can be heard shouting for the attackers to stop as the confrontation unfolded.

“No, stop that,” one person can be heard yelling in the video. Another voice shouted, “Knock it off.”

At one point during the altercation, another bystander shouted, “What a punk,” as the violence continued.

The video shows the three men eventually leaving the area after the beating.

Several other people nearby appeared to remain seated at restaurant tables or standing in the area while the incident took place.

The San Jose Police Department later confirmed that investigators are reviewing the case as a potential hate crime after the victims reported that antisemitic language was used during the confrontation.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that two adult male victims were approached by a group of three adult male subjects and an altercation occurred between the victims and suspects, which became physical,” the department said in a statement provided to The California Post.

Police also confirmed the victims suffered minor injuries during the incident.

“Both victims were evaluated by medical personnel on scene for minor injuries. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. The victims alleged that the suspects used antisemitic language during the altercation.”

Authorities said the investigation remains active as detectives attempt to identify the individuals involved in the attack.

A social media account using the handle @TheJewishAlly shared a clip of the incident on X and claimed the confrontation occurred after the victims were heard speaking Hebrew.

The claim has circulated widely online following the release of the video.

Local officials also addressed the incident following the reports.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan described the confrontation as troubling and said city officials were in contact with law enforcement and community leaders.

“Antisemitism and any acts of hatred have no place in San Jose. Being able to talk about our differences and celebrate them, is what makes us the safest big city in America,” Mahan told KRON.

“I have been in touch with our police department and leaders in the local Jewish community regarding this deeply disturbing incident and will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

The attack occurred in Santana Row, an area widely known as a major commercial and residential destination in Silicon Valley. The development features dozens of businesses and residential units.

According to the district’s website, Santana Row includes “over 50 shops, 30 restaurants, 662 rental homes, 219 privately owned condominiums, and a 215-key boutique hotel.”

The California Post reported it reached out to the mayor’s office for additional comment regarding the incident.

Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the case.

Investigators continue to review the footage and gather information from witnesses as the investigation proceeds.
