‘Scarface’ Actor Harris Yulin Dead At 87

Harris Yulin, best known for playing the corrupt detective who tried to extort money from Al Pacino’s character Tony Montana in “Scarface,” died Tuesday at the age of 87.

Yulin’s manager, Sue Leibman, confirmed the famous actor died of cardiac arrest in New York City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Yulin’s career in entertainment spanned across five decades, and included film and television roles, as well as six Broadway appearances. The star was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996 for his work on “Frasier.”

Some of Yulin’s most prominent film credits include “Clear and Present Danger,” “Training Day,” “Night Moves,” “St. Ives,” “Another Woman,” Murder at 1600,” Cradle Will Rock,” “Rush Hour 2,” and “Norman.”

The actor’s television credits include, “Frasier,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Ozark.” He also appeared in “Kojak,” “Ironside,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “La Femme Nikita,” “The X-Files,” “Entourage,” “The Blacklist,” “Veep,” “Murphy Brown,” “24,” and “Billions.” He portrayed the judge whose courtroom is destroyed by spirits in “Ghostbusters II.”

Yulin was as graceful on the live stage as he was on set. He made his Broadway debut in 1980 and went on to perform in the production of “Watch on the Rhine. He also appeared in “The Visit” in 1992, and five years later, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” In 1999, Yulin’s Broadway shows included “The Price,” and “Hedda Gabler.”

Yulin left behind a lasting legacy of work that continues to live on.  Fans and fellow stars have shown an outpouring of love on social media as they share memories of the actor, and pay their final respects.
