Schumer has a meltdown over Trump’s big tariff deal with the EU

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is not happy about the trade deal President Donald Trump negotiated with the EU.

The deal would establish 15% tariffs on European goods, which is half of what Trump had originally planned to set. For their part, the European Union has agreed to purchase $750 billion in American energy during the coming three years.

Schumer shredded the agreement, calling it “fake.”

“Trump would have you believe it’s the biggest deal ever. Europe has admitted that this agreement isn’t legally binding, and they have no control over whether these investments even happen,” he whined, comparing the deal to our agreement with Japan.

Japan agreed to invest $550 billion in the United States in exchange for a 15% tariff.

The EU agreement came mere days before Trump’s August 1 deadline, which would have seen higher tariffs imposed and more pressure to come to the table. Schumer ranted about this on the Senate floor, upset by the deal and trying to frame it as a major financial blow to the American people.
