Republican strategist Scott Jennings pushed back hard Tuesday on claims swirling around White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, saying the controversy has been “significantly taken out of context.”
Wiles responded Tuesday after Vanity Fair published a two-part profile based on more than 10 interviews portraying her as making shocking remarks about President Donald Trump and his cabinet, calling the article a “disingenuously framed hit piece.” During a panel on “The Arena with Kasie Hunt,” Jennings said Wiles is “revered” and “respected.”
“[She] has the total confidence and trust of the President,” Jennings said. “He’s come out this afternoon and backed her on everything. And so, look, I mean, ultimately, there’s only one person’s opinion that matters. President of the United States, he loved Susie yesterday. He loves her today.”

Trump defended Wiles, saying he stands by her and dismissing the Vanity Fair profile as the White House moved aggressively to undercut the story. Dismissing speculation about internal turmoil, Jennings said the incident is a routine Beltway gossip rather than a real test of leadership.
“So I think, you know, look, for most people, this would be a little bit of palace intrigue. But I don’t detect any wobbling in the leadership in her position at the White House,” Jennings added. (RELATED: Scott Jennings Explains Who Motivated Six Democrats To Tell Military To Disobey Trump)
The Vanity Fair profile opens by detailing how Wiles described several top administration figures, including saying Trump has “an alcoholic’s personality” and characterizing Vice President JD Vance’s shift into a Trump ally as “sort of political.” She further described OMB Director Russell Vought as “a right-wing absolute zealot” and suggested Elon Musk’s erratic social media posts may coincide with “microdosing,” while noting she lacked first-hand knowledge.
In response to the article, Wiles said Vanity Fair stripped key context to falsely portray the Trump White House as chaotic and negative. She said the administration has achieved more in eleven months than others have in eight years, crediting Trump’s leadership and vowing the team will keep pushing its America First agenda. Other Trump allies and administration officials echoed Wiles’ remarks on X.
“Susie Wiles is an exceptional chief of staff. I have had the privilege of working in President Trump’s White House for every single minute of his two terms,” Vought wrote. “Let me be very clear: It has never worked this well or been more oriented towards accomplishing what he wants to accomplish. In my portfolio, she is always an ally in helping me deliver for the president. And this hit piece will not slow us down.”
