Scottish First Minister John Swinney opposes assisted suicide law, citing his faith

As this edition of ET went to print, the Scottish Parliament was voting on Stage One of a bill to legalise assisted suicide.

The bill, which still must pass several stages at Holyrood before it can become law, is opposed by First Minister John Swinney.

The proposed legislation, which was introduced by the Liberal Democrat MSP Liam McArthur, seeks to allow terminally ill patients to request medical help to die.
