The report, titled “Cheaper Power 2030, Net Zero 2050”, argues that instead of going green too quickly, Labour should focus on making electricity cheaper which would in turn help the Net Zero agenda. The report says:
“Circumstances have change. Pushing the system too quickly risks driving up costs and undermining confidence. If the transition continues in a way that raises costs, weakens reliability and undermines growth, it will fail both politically and practically.”
It goes on to suggest suspending carbon taxes on gas, which would save the average household £20 a year, along with more radical planning reforms and giving NESO a mandate to “monitor net zero delivery for cost-effectiveness”. Red Ed won’t be thrilled to see his own side lighting up his green dream yet again…
