Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said Monday the second suspect in an attempted robbery of a United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer has been taken into custody.
The agent was attacked while he was with a female companion at 11:50 p.m. Saturday by two men on a moped in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan in what appeared to be an attempted robbery, according to a Sunday post on X by DHS. Noem gave the update during a press conference after she visited the wounded officer.

“Fortunately for us today, our officer survived. He survived. He’s going through a very difficult time and I would ask that you respect him and his family and his friend who was with him and what they have gone through,” Noem said during an eight-minute statement. “But I would also say that we can’t guarantee the next victim of these dangerous criminals will be treated the same or will be able to get through this dangerous situation. We were able to bring the second individual in and have detained him as well and he will face consequences and hopefully strong prosecution for his crimes and his involvement on Saturday night.”
The video shows the exchange of gunfire, during which the off-duty agent was shot in the face, but returned fire, hitting one of the two assailants. New York Police Department radio traffic posted on X indicated the agent was shot in the mouth during the incident.
The DHS identified the wounded subject as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez in a post on X, saying he entered the United States illegally before being apprehended and released in Arizona.
CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott told reporters the second assailant had also been apprehended and released at the U.S. border after Noem spoke.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request from the Daily Caller News Foundation for more informtion on the second suspect.
