Sen. Markwayne Mullin recounted a personal story involving his son’s severe brain injury and the support he said President Donald Trump provided during a difficult period for his family.

Mullin began by describing the incident that occurred on January 17, 2020. “It’s not about President Trump, it’s about my son,” Mullin said.

He explained, “So my son was a really world class athlete, and January 17 of 2020, which, mind you, was an election year.

He had a really serious brain injury, woke up 26 hours later, he’s a different kid.”

He detailed the severity of the situation, stating, “We almost lost him for 26 hours. He had an extremely low pulse. There was a time they that they thought that they lost his pulse altogether.”

Mullin said that when his son regained consciousness, his condition had drastically changed.

“When he woke up he was just different,” he said.

Mullin described the extent of the damage, noting that his son struggled with basic functions.

“He couldn’t touch his nose. He couldn’t walk without shuffling his feet. He had short term memory loss. He couldn’t control his muscles, couldn’t add five plus three,” he said.

At the time, his son was still in high school and required significant rehabilitation. “Had to learn how to read, walk, everything,” Mullin added.

According to Mullin, President Trump learned about the situation and reached out directly.

“The President found out about it, and he gave me a call immediately,” Mullin said.

He recalled part of their conversation, saying, “He said, let me get this straight. He doesn’t know who you and Chris you are, but he knew I was because the only question you got right is who the President was.”

Mullin said the President quickly offered assistance once he understood the seriousness of the injury.

“He heard it in my voice, and immediately he went to work,” Mullin said.
