The cash will be spent on designer “Freedom” chairs for Members of the Senedd. The chairs, made by Humanscale, cost over £1,000 per item and are marketed as a “premium ergonomic office chair.” You’d hope so…
The Commission says:
“Commissioners reviewed the options proposed for the acoustic panels and seating in the newly refurbished Senedd Siambr, and confirmed the preferred option to purchase 110 Humanscale Freedom task chairs for Members’ seating.”
The Welsh Tories are raging at the spend. A spokesman said:
“Labour and Plaid Cymru’s Senedd expansion will cost taxpayers £120 million and now they’re wasting even more money on luxury furniture. Spending over £1,000 per chair is utterly indefensible when frontline services are crying out for investment.”
Funnily enough a large number of those chairs will presumably be warmed by the posteriors of Reform politicians…
