Shapiro Asked Whether Jewish Democrat Who Supports Israel Can Win Elections

Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro was asked Thursday whether a Jewish Democrat who supports Israel can still win elections, but he dodged the question.

During an interview with Bret Baier on “Special Report,” Baier asked Shapiro whether a Jewish Democrat who backs Israel can win elections.

“I think the people who can win in my party are people who are going to deliver for the people that they want to represent,” Shapiro told Baier.

Shapiro added that Pennsylvanians respect individuals from different backgrounds.

“I think the good people of Pennsylvania are people who respect folks from all different walks of life, and I think Pennsylvania is in many ways really a microcosm of the rest of this great country,” Shapiro added.

A poll in October shows Democratic primary voters increasingly support punitive steps against Israel, with majorities across age groups and regions favoring sanctions and limits on U.S. military aid. At the same time, several former members of the progressive “Squad” who opposed strong aid to Israel lost their primaries in 2024.

Earlier this month, several Democrats condemned protesters who chanted support for Hamas outside a New York synagogue, as party leaders sought to draw clear boundaries on Israeli-related rhetoric. Protesters assembled across the street from the yeshiva to protest an Israeli real estate event. Social media videos showed them chanting “We support Hamas here” while waving Palestinian flags.

The protest occurred months after Democratic New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, during an October appearance on Fox News, avoided denouncing Hamas. (RELATED: Mamdani Urges New Yorkers To Read Homoerotic Sports Novel During Snowstorm)

“I believe that any future here in New York City is one that we have to make sure that’s affordable for all,” Mamdani said. “And as it pertains to Israel and Palestine that we have to ensure that there is peace. And that is the future we have to fight for.”
