Six pedestrians were hospitalized Thursday morning after a Ford Mustang jumped a curb and crashed into a sidewalk shed in the Bronx, according to the New York Police Department.
The driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot and remain at large, as reported by the New York Post.

The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of East 149th Street and Courtlandt Avenue. Police said the vehicle first struck one pedestrian while making a turn before continuing forward, hitting five more people and colliding with the scaffolding.

Photos from the scene show the Mustang with severe front-end damage, including a missing bumper. The vehicle had no license plates attached to either the front or back.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic and frightening scene.
“People were yelling, were in pain, so yelling, crying, it was very upsetting,” witness Vivian Cole told ABC 7.
Another bystander, Christina Sieh, initially feared something worse. “We thought it was a bomb or something, because we are all panicking around here,” she said.
The incident caused a temporary shutdown of part of Courtlandt Avenue as police investigated and emergency crews tended to the injured. The sidewalk shed that was struck was part of a construction site near the intersection.

As of Thursday afternoon, NYPD officers were reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses in an effort to identify the suspects and determine if the crash was accidental or intentional. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the vehicle was reported stolen.
The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the incident or the fleeing individuals to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
