Smug suspect flaunts Lamborghini, riches, accused of milking millions from US taxpayers under Medicaid

A New Orleans woman was arrested this Monday for fraudulently obtaining Medicaid while living the life of the rich and famous.

The suspect, Candace Taylor, allegedly underreported her income to receive Medicaid benefits, even though she was earning hundreds of thousands of dollars through her businesses — enough, in fact, to afford plastic surgery and even a Lamborghini.

According to a press release from Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office, the fraud started in 2019.

That year, Taylor applied for Medicaid “under the alias ‘Candace Sailor,’ in which she reported her income as $1,900 bi-weekly and claimed no dependents.”

“This application was denied due to exceeding the income threshold,” the press release notes. “Less than one year later, on March 23, 2020, she re-applied using the same misspelled name.”

This time, she claimed to have no income, and so she was approved. There was just one problem.

“[B]etween January 2020 and December 2024, Taylor’s multiple businesses collectively generated over $9.5 million in revenue across various accounts controlled by her,” according to Murrill’s office.

In 2020 alone, she deposited $480,994.09 into her account, of which at least $325,000 was from her business earnings.

Furthermore, between 2021 and 2024, she made $45,086.65 in payments to the car manufacturer Audi.

She also made a number of huge withdrawals that she subsequently used to buy property, lavish jewelry, luxury services, and cosmetic surgery.

The 2022 Lamborghini Urus was obtained in 2024 with a $100,000 wire transfer and $13,000 debit card transaction.

“From 2021 through 2024, Ms. Taylor continued to transfer tens of thousands of dollars between her personal and business accounts, with personal inflows consistently exceeding the eligibility thresholds for Medicaid,” the affidavit against her reads.

Then, two months after buying the Lamborghini in 2024, Taylor contacted the Louisiana Department of Health in an attempt to renew her fraudulent Medicaid benefits.

This time, “she falsely declared employment with a business, alleging an income of $4,000 per month, while omitting the fact that she was the business owner.”

Meanwhile, she was busy on social media showing off her luxurious lifestyle.

“You don’t often see this level of abuse in the system, someone who would lie over and over again about her eligibility and then go out and buy a Lamborghini and plastic surgery,” AG Murill told local station WBRZ. “That’s pretty flagrant fraud.”

Yes, it is. Yet Taylor continues to maintain her innocence.

“Man Watch Out! That’s Not All True,” she wrote on Facebook this week in response to news reports about her fraudulent activities.

Her friends appeared to support her, with many encouraging her to continue “getting the bag,” i.e., continue swindling the system for her own financial benefit.

“We spend a lot of money on these programs, and they are supposed to be helping people who cannot afford that medical care on their own,” Murrill added in her statement to WBRZ. “This is someone who very clearly was making a lot of money and could afford to obtain insurance.”

Following an extensive investigation, the police finally arrested Taylor on Monday on one count of government benefits fraud. She was then booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Responding to stories about her arrest, critics were incensed by her actions and her clear-cut lack of remorse, but happy that Taylor’s finally facing justice.
