Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday. Both had their green cards revoked, officials said, following a review of their activities and affiliations.
In a statement outlining the basis for the action, the State Department said, “While living in the United States, she promoted Iranian regime propaganda, celebrated attacks against American soldiers and military facilities in the Middle East, praised the new Iranian Supreme Leader, denounced America as the “Great Satan,’ and voiced her unflinching support for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated terror organization.”
According to federal records, Afshar entered the United States in 2015 on a tourist visa.

She was later granted asylum in 2019 and obtained a green card in 2021.
Authorities said she traveled back to Iran at least four times after becoming a permanent resident, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Her daughter, Hosseiny, also entered the United States in 2015 on a student visa.
She became a green card holder in 2023, officials said.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson addressed the decision to revoke their residency status.
“It is a privilege to be granted a green card to live in the United States of America. If we have reason to believe a green card holder poses a threat to the US, the green card will be revoked,” said Lauren Bis.
Officials also pointed to Afshar’s social media activity, which they said included content promoting the Iranian regime and documenting her lifestyle in Los Angeles.
The State Department noted that her social media account, which has since been deleted, frequently displayed aspects of her life in the United States.
Afshar’s husband, whose name was not disclosed by officials, has also been barred from entering the United States as part of the action.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the development in a post on X, writing, “The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.”
Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States.

The arrests come as the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has continued, entering its sixth week.
Federal officials have not disclosed additional details regarding the timing of potential removal proceedings.
In a related action last month, the State Department terminated the legal status of Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larjiani, the daughter of Ali Larjiani, who previously served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Ali Larjiani, described by officials as a hardliner, was reported to have been killed in joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on March 16, following an Israeli operation that targeted Iranian leadership.
Qasem Soleimani, Afshar’s uncle, led the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force and was killed in a U.S. drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump in 2020 near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq.
Officials said the arrests of Afshar and Hosseiny are part of ongoing enforcement actions related to national security concerns and immigration compliance.
