George Soros and members of his family have contributed more than $71,000 to the campaign accounts of New York Attorney General Letitia James since 2019, including $31,000 connected to her upcoming re-election effort, according to a report published Sunday by the New York Post.
The Post, citing New York Board of Elections records, reported that Soros donated $18,000 in July 2024, while his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soros, contributed $13,000 in May.
In addition to those more recent donations, Soros and his family have provided approximately $40,000 to James’ earlier campaigns dating back to 2019.

According to the report, those figures do not include indirect political support James receives through organizations funded by Soros.

The New York Post reported that Soros has provided substantial financial backing to far-left groups that have supported James politically, including the Working Families Party.
Records cited by the Post show that Soros’ Open Society Foundation has distributed $23.7 million to the Working Families Party since 2016 through its fundraising arm, Working Families Organization Inc.
In addition, Soros and his family members have donated $865,000 directly to the New York branch of the party since 2018.
James has longstanding ties to the Working Families Party. In 2003, she became the first candidate endorsed by the party to win a race in New York when she was elected to a City Council seat representing Fort Greene and surrounding areas of Brooklyn.
Michael Henry, a commercial litigator and Republican who is challenging James in the 2026 election, criticized Soros’ financial role in New York politics in comments to the Post.
“George Soros has spent years financing the radical left’s most extreme projects, and the outcome is almost always the same: instability and disorder that is destroying our state,” Henry said.
He continued, “We saw it with [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg, so no one should be surprised that [Soros] is heavily backing Letitia James’ ideological crusades and political vendettas that put New Yorkers’ safety on the back burner.”
“When the same donor who funds chaos underwrites New York’s top law enforcement office, the results speak for themselves,” Henry added.
James has drawn national attention for her legal actions targeting President Donald Trump and his administration.
During her 2018 campaign, James publicly pledged to investigate Trump’s real estate practices, a promise she later followed through on by filing multiple lawsuits against Trump and his administration.
One of the most prominent cases alleges that Trump and his family, acting as real estate developers, engaged in fraud by exaggerating Trump’s net worth on loan applications.
That case remains ongoing. However, in August, a state appellate panel overturned fines exceeding $500 million that had previously been ordered against Trump in the matter.
James has also faced scrutiny of her own. The Department of Justice investigated allegations that she provided deceptive information on a mortgage application related to property she owns in Virginia.
James was indicted on fraud charges in October and pleaded not guilty.
The case was later dismissed after a judge ruled that the U.S. attorney who brought the charges had been illegally appointed.
Subsequent attempts by the Department of Justice to re-indict James have failed.
President Trump has frequently criticized Soros and his son Alex Soros, who leads the Open Society Foundation.

In August, Trump publicly called for investigations into Soros and his network under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
He accused Soros and his associates of backing anti-Israel activists and violent immigration protests.
“We’re not going to let these lunatics rip America apart anymore,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
A September report by the New York Times stated that a directive was issued within the Department of Justice instructing prosecutors to examine Soros’ activities and determine “if the allegations were enough to justify opening criminal cases,” adding that prosecutors should be prepared to submit their investigative plans.
Letitia James is a Soros/USAID lachey.
