Starmer has not denied National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell was involved in the collapse of the Chinese ‘spies’ case. During a press conference in India, Starmer was asked:
“Can you say categorically whether any minister, or Jonathan Powell, was involved in the decision not to provide the CPS with evidence evidence that at the time the offences were alleged to have taken place, China represented a threat to national security?”
Starmer responded:
“I can be absolutely clear no ministers were involved in any of the decisions since this government’s been in, in relation to the evidence that’s put before the court on this issue.”
Yesterday, flood minister Emma Hardy was asked whether Powell, who is not a minister, was involved, to which she responded that the decision had “nothing to do with him, nothing to do with ministers whatsoever. That is completely false.” The cracks are forming…
