Starmer Refuses to Repeat Promise Tax Rises Will Be Smaller Than Last Budget
Amid a flurry of questions over Reeves – to which Starmer said he wasn’t aware she was crying in the Commons yesterday and that she is “fine” – Starmer was asked this morning about inevitable tax hikes in the Autumn. Asked to repeat Chancellor Reeves’ comments last year that the government won’t come back for “anything like the tax hikes in the last budget”. He refused:
“No prime minister or chancellor is going to write a budget um in advance.”
Starmer also couldn’t say how the £5 billion black hole created by his gutted welfare bill be paid for. Brace..
