There hasn’t been much in the way of flattering briefing from Starmer’s ‘reset’ away day when the PM dragged his Cabinet ministers to Chequers. Some thin gruel has appeared in the press. It was a dud…

Starmer is said in a briefing to the Times to have given ministers a “rallying cry” and assured them that they were “the most working-class cabinet of all time… This is a time for fighters.” Bizarre class content from private school boy…

Guido hears that ministers came back without much of an impression of a ‘reset.’ Instead Keir was said to be “pretty chilled out” according to one government source. There was “no thumping on tables” from the PM – so much for a “fighter”…

Even the launch of Rayner’s Office of the Deputy Prime Minister – penned in for that day – was delayed centrally. Some sources argue a bit of relaxation isn’t a bad thing – everyone is anyway waiting for the mooted Downing Street personnel changes into the summer. Which Guido reported on first 17 days ago…
