Minister: Starmer’s Confusion Over What a Woman is Fine Because He’s a Man

Things got feisty on Sky News this morning as policing minister Diana Johnson clashed with Wilfred Frost over Starmer’s position on what a woman is. Frost pressed Johnson on Starmer’s newfound clarity that “a woman doesn’t have a penis” – a total U-turn on his previous insistence that trans women are women and yes, some women can have penises. Asked whether Starmer should apologise for making a mistake, Johnson (as a woman) took the line that as Starmer is a man, it doesn’t matter what he’s said about this topic in the past:

“I think as a woman I’m not particularly interested in what men think or or feel about issues around women’s rights. What I’m interested in is the law.”

Interesting take. Frost made the sound point:

“He’s the prime minister. Whether he’s a man or woman is irrelevant. His view is critically important on all topics. Just to say because he’s a man we can excuse his error here.”
