‘Stop Hyperventilating’: Fox News’ Will Cain Confronts James Carville Over Comparing Trump To Hitler

Fox News host Will Cain confronted Democratic strategist James Carville on Tuesday over likening President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

Carville suggested in an April 22 video that Trump has the potential to become Hitler after “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David wrote a New York Times op-ed mocking comedian Bill Maher’s dinner with Trump by invoking the genocidal dictator. Cain, on “The Will Cain Show,” told Carville that such comparisons are politically damaging for Democrats. “I do want to press you on one thing. And I appreciate that you have criticized the left wing of your party, James. I truly do. And I think that you’re right when you say leaning into gender identity and pronouns and the feminine nature of the current message of Democrats is a loser,” Cain said. “I have to tell you, James: I also think it’s a loser to do something that you have done. And that is to constantly equate President Trump to Hitler. Constantly equate this to an authoritarian regime. I think you’ve got to find a positive message and stop hyperventilating over the dystopian future of America.”

Carville doubled down, citing various allegations.

“Ed Martin, who Trump has appointed U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., has a long history of entertaining people with, shall we say, rather right-wing views. Trump, according to his wife in a deposition, kept a copy of ‘Mein Kampf’ on his night table,” the Democratic strategist said. “Trump has said that he admires Hitler’s — the generals that Hitler had. He wished he had more generals like Hitler does. He sides with authoritarian countries, okay? Do you have to wait until he becomes Hitler? And … Elon Musk … said that Hitler was not responsible for the Holocaust, it was actually the postal employees that did it.”

Musk reposted and subsequently removed an X post in March asserting genocidal dictators like Hitler did not “murder millions of people,” and instead arguing “public sector employees” did the killing, Haaretz reported.

Cain suggested Carville’s allegations were media misrepresentations.

“I think the vast majority of that is hyperventilating, it is half-truths reported from media,” he said.

Carville added that Trump reportedly had dinner with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and white nationalist Nick Fuentes in November 2022.

“There’s a lot of evidence to say that Trump, shall we say, has a favorable view of some of these things,” he asserted. “And I will continue to bring it up.”

“The half-truth I would say, James, is yes, he did have dinner with Nick Fuentes,” Cain replied. “He said he did not know who he was or what he stood for.”

Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson also disputed the notion that Trump is governing as a fascist during a Thursday interview, asserting former President Joe Biden governed in a more fascistic manner.
