Storm Chasers Get Engaged Next to a Raging Tornado – ‘Couldn’t Have Asked for a Better Proposal’ [WATCH]

In a love story as powerful and unpredictable as the weather they chase, storm chasers Bryce Shelton and Paige Berdomas took their passion to new heights — and straight into the path of a tornado.

On Sunday afternoon, amidst a violent outbreak of storms in South Dakota, Shelton dropped to one knee and proposed to Berdomas as an EF-3 tornado swirled behind them in the distance.

“It was the most beautiful tornado I’ve ever seen in my life,” Berdomas recalled, still in awe of the once-in-a-lifetime moment.

The couple, united by their shared fascination for extreme weather, had been chasing tornadoes together for over a year.

As the sky darkened and the wind roared across the South Dakota plains, Shelton decided it was finally time to turn their partnership into a lifelong one.

Wearing safety goggles and a look of complete surprise, Berdomas said yes, beaming with joy as a tornado loomed dramatically behind them.

“It was absolutely incredible,” Berdomas told reporters. “I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal.”

A photo shared on X (formerly Twitter) captured the couple moments after their engagement, with the massive funnel cloud in the background — a breathtaking image that encapsulated the power of both nature and love.

“How on earth could this day ever be topped?” Berdomas posted online.

“Experienced this in South Dakota with the love of my life and now FIANCÉ as he proposed in the most epic way imaginable. Cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you @BryceShelton01.”

The stormy backdrop couldn’t have been more fitting for the pair who met and bonded through their love of storm chasing.

Initially friends chasing storms in tandem, their connection deepened after their previous relationships ended, and their shared passion soon turned romantic.

“Our chasing style is similar and we like interacting with other people on YouTube,” Berdomas said in an interview with People, explaining how their storm chasing adventures brought them closer together.

The proposal, though spontaneous in appearance, had been in the works for months.

Shelton revealed to FOX Weather that he had been planning to propose for nearly five months, secretly carrying the engagement ring in his pocket for three of them, waiting for the ideal moment.

“I’ve been waiting for 18 weeks now, just for the perfect opportunity,” Shelton told People.

“I wanted to do it in South Dakota in front of a photogenic tornado, because South Dakota is our favorite state, both of us. And it just worked out perfect.”

That moment finally came Sunday — amid the thunder, lightning, and rising winds.

As Shelton got down on one knee, the tornado provided a surreal, awe-inspiring backdrop, making for one of the most visually striking and emotionally charged proposals in recent memory.

After the engagement, the couple met up with fellow storm chaser Brandon Copic, who encouraged them to take a better photo to commemorate the occasion.

As fate would have it, an even more stunning tornado dropped down nearby, creating the perfect setting.

“Later on, the most photogenic tornado ever came down,” Berdomas said.

“We were in the tornado when it first dropped down. We got very close. Brandon’s in front and he pulls up and runs over and he’s like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to get a better picture.’”

The resulting photo has since gone viral among storm chasing communities and romantics alike — an image that perfectly captures the couple’s whirlwind romance, set against the fierce and awe-inspiring beauty of nature.

Their engagement, forged in the heart of a storm, stands as a testament to finding calm in chaos and love in the most unpredictable places.

For Shelton and Berdomas, their journey together continues — chasing storms, capturing nature’s fury, and now, planning a wedding filled with just as much adventure and excitement as the skies they follow.
