Strange-Looking Kraken Mascot Gets Chased Down By Grizzly Bears In Terrifying Scene

The fact that this actually happened … wow!

Taking place in Anchorage, Alaska, multiple members of the Seattle Kraken and their strange-looking mascot Buoy went on a fly fishing trip, but things nearly got bad — really bad. And that’s because of a couple of grizzly bears, real ones, chasing down Buoy and nearly making the mascot its lunch.

The fly fishing trip was a part of the franchise’s partnership with an entity named the Bristol Bay Native Corporation. Every year, both the Kraken and the brand hold a hockey camp that happens at the Anchorage Hockey Academy. Here in 2025, Seattle forward John Hayden, Buoy and multiple youth hockey coaches from the franchise took a visit to Katmai National Park to fish for some of Alaska’s most exotic. With the water up to their waists, two grizzly bears all of a sudden came out of nowhere, and they were clearly hungry with one of the bears taking interest in the mascot. So much so, that it started chasing down Buoy in a truly terrifying scene.

“That last little sprint, I was worried for you, Buoy,” said Hayden after the bears ran off. “I want to blame it on Buoy. They were pretty interested in his whole look. We got out of it okay, but it was a close call.”
