The resident legal eagle on The View produced one of the most interesting takes on the illegal immigration debate.
Riots in Los Angeles have brought public discussion back to illegal immigration and the best way to address it, but there are still some people who think breaking immigration laws is perfectly acceptable. Sunny Hostin argued that it is “misinformation” to say that it is “illegal to be undocumented.” She went on to claim that it is merely a “civil infraction” and therefore is not a good enough reason to seek someone out for deportation.
Watch:
Sunny Hostin is shocked to learn that the American people OVERWHELMINGLY agree that invading our country is a crime.

“Sixty percent of the American public, two-thirds of independents, 90% of Republicans, and just a little under half of Democrats think the crime is in being undocumented,” said co-host Sara Haines. “What I’m saying is, a massive amount of this country actually agrees with, not how [President Donald Trump is] doing it, but what he’s doing.”
“There’s misinformation out there. Let’s axe that right now, because it is not illegal to be undocumented. It is not a crime to be undocumented. People are not illegal,” Hostin said. “We need to put that information out there. It is a civil infraction.”
But the show’s “conservative” co-host provided some resistance to these arguments.
“I think that 60% of Americans believe it’s a civil offense and that if you come here, and you’re undocumented, that you should be deported,” she pointed out.
This comes as the leadership in California, and specifically Governor Gavin Newsom, have criticized Trump for sending in the National Guard.
“I have formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command,” the governor wrote in a social media post on Sunday. “We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved. This is a serious breach of state sovereignty – inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they’re actually needed.”
X users had a lot to say about Hostin’s take:
Coming into any country illegally is a crime.

They still don’t get it. Hilarious.

Turns out “illegal” still means illegal, even if The View claps like seals while denying it. Border law isn’t a matter of feelings or hot flashes.

Border security isn’t controversial. It’s constitutional. Americans want enforcement not lectures from media elites.

She thinks it’s only because if misinformation and if she educates us enough, we will want all illegals to stay.
