Swalwell Asked About Doxxing Of ICE Agents But Responds By Making The Story About Himself

When pressed Wednesday about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents getting doxxed, Democrat California Rep. Eric Swalwell told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that he has had to pay for private security due to threats against him.

ICE raids have ramped up across the country and in sanctuary cities like Los Angeles. The Department of Homeland Security said that, compared to the same time last year, assaults against ICE and federal agents conducting immigration enforcement are up 690%, according to Fox News. Swalwell supports ICE agents not wearing masks in the field. Cuomo pushed back. (RELATED: Dems Unveil Anti-ICE Face Mask Bill Immediately After Coordinated Attack Against Agents)

“Can you really not understand why there could be more than one thing going on at the time? One, it’s a bad look — hyper-aggressive. Two, they’re worried about their families,” Cuomo said.

Swalwell responded.

“A hundred percent, and as somebody who has probably [had] the top five most threats [that] any member of Congress gets — who spent over a million dollars in the last couple years on security — I get it,” Swalwell said. “But you should prosecute aggressively anyone who threatens them.”

Democrats have continually attempted to push back against the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal migrants, taking, for example, taxpayer-funded trips out of the country or getting arrested while attempting to confront federal officers.

WATCH:

Within the last week, two attacks have been conducted on ICE facilities in Texas, with the first occurring on Friday, resulting in 10 suspects getting arrested. The second took place Monday, leading to 27-year-old Michigan resident Ryan Louis Mosqueda being killed after he opened fire on officers.

“I’ve actually pushed to expand the law enforcement capabilities when somebody makes a threat against a federal official because right now it’s too damn hard to go after somebody. People know just the right words to say so that they’re not prosecuted. They do this to Republicans. They do this to Democrats, [and] they’re doing it to law enforcement,” Swalwell added.

“But to have credibility in the community — because they’ve been doing this since day one. They’ve been wearing masks,” Swalwell said. “So to say that they’ve been doxxed, yes, but they started out under the Trump administration with this posture, and I think that is terrorizing the community as well.”

Footage that Fox News took in January of an ICE raid in Boston shows agents not wearing masks, with the outlet blurring officers’ faces.

It is unclear when implementation of masks officially began. Democratic California State Sen. Scott Wiener introduced legislation in June seeking to ban law enforcement from covering their faces while working in public. In response, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin ripped Democrats, saying agents are being “assaulted by rioters” in Los Angeles.
