New York Attorney General Letitia James is looking to raise lots of money from her wealthy backers as a federal probe into allegations that she committed mortgage fraud looms, with the potential of years behind bars at stake.
The embattled Democrat, who abused her office to pursue lawfare against President Donald J. Trump, will be looking for her fat cat friends to help her out with a swanky fundraising event bringing up to $18,000 as she prepares to defend herself against potential charges that could derail her reelection bid.
James’ supporters will get their chance to pony up for their hero on Tuesday at the exclusive event that will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the home of far left activists Rod Grozier and Rob Smith, who is the founder and CEO of gender-neutral clothing company The Phluid Project which bills itself as “a Queer-owned business grounded in community, activism, and education.”
“Letitia James is fighting for our rights every single day. This is our opportunity to show Letitia that we have her back,” reads the event page on ActBlue, a fundraising platform for Democrats that has been accused of money laundering.
The invitation calls for “contributions starting at $500 and climbing to an eye-popping $18,000, the maximum allowed by New York law, in support of her 2026 re-election bid,” according to the New York Post, which first reported on the fundraiser.
The invitation shows a picture of James “framed by a circular gay pride flag,” the post reported.
The event comes amid allegations that James engaged in fraud to obtain favorable financing on mortgages for her properties, one of them in Norfolk, Va., which she said was her primary residence despite being New York’s attorney general. A criminal referral was made to the Justice Department by the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) this week.
“Based on media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms,” the agency said in the referral, according to The Hill.
“At the time of the 2023 Norfolk, VA property purchase and mortgage, Ms. James was the siting Attorney General of New York and is required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York—even though her mortgage applications list her intent to have the Norfolk, VA property as her primary home,” the referral reads.
“New York requires its AGs to live in the state for at least five years before being elected and also while in office,” according to the Post.
X users reacted to the news of the fundraiser. “Put this fat pig in prison!” wrote data analyst Tony Seruga.

What’s with the sudden trend of criminals raising money off of their misdeeds? Or maybe this has always happened?

James responded to the allegations of fraud by playing the victim during a fiery rant this week.

“Let me just say to all New Yorkers and to all Americans: The allegations are baseless. The allegations are nothing more than a revenge tour,” she told NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on ‘Inside City Hall’ Thursday,” the New York Post reported.
“I will not be silenced. I will not be bullied. I will not bend. I will not break. And I will not bow to anyone. No one is above the law, including the president of these United States,” proclaimed “Peekaboo” James.
“When powerful people cheat to get better loans, it comes at the expense of hardworking people. Everyday Americans cannot lie to a bank to get a mortgage, and if they did, our government would throw the book at them. There simply cannot be different rules for different people,” James wrote in a February 2024 post to X that has now come back to haunt her.
