Synagogue Targeted as Multiple Jewish Ambulances Set Ablaze Overnight in London [WATCH]

Police in London are investigating what officials have described as an antisemitic hate crime after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer emergency service were set on fire outside a synagogue in Golders Green, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred Monday morning in the north London neighborhood, one of the city’s largest Jewish communities.

Authorities said multiple vehicles belonging to Hatzola, a Jewish volunteer emergency medical service, were deliberately targeted in the attack.

Video footage from the scene showed three masked individuals igniting a fire near one of the ambulances.

Witnesses reported hearing explosions shortly afterward, which police said were likely caused by gas canisters stored inside the vehicles.

According to witnesses, the fire spread rapidly from one ambulance to another.

Ambulances parked near the Machzike Hadath Orthodox Jewish synagogue “went up one after the other,” witness Jenny Rodin told Sky News.

Max Reisner said he arrived as one of the vehicles exploded.

“You sort of felt it go through your guts,” he told Sky as he described the moment. “Very terrifying moment to actually see an ambulance go up in flames. We’re all still reeling from the shock.”

Emergency crews later extinguished the fires, leaving behind what witnesses described as burned-out shells of the ambulances.

Shloimie Richman, chair of Hatzalah Northwest, confirmed the extent of the damage, stating that four out of the group’s six ambulances were destroyed in what he described as a targeted act.

Four of the ambulances were “deliberately targeted in an arson attack,” Richman said, according to CNN.

Police have launched a manhunt for those responsible, and the incident has drawn condemnation from national leaders and religious figures.

Britain’s Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, called the attack a “particularly sickening assault,” emphasizing the role the volunteer service plays in the broader community.

“Our Hatzola volunteer ambulance corps is an extraordinary service, whose sole mission is to protect life, Jewish and non-Jewish alike,” he said.

Hatzola Northwest is composed of 61 volunteer medics and paramedics who provide emergency medical assistance free of charge. The organization operates within a 2.5-mile radius, responding to calls in the local community.

The attack has heightened security concerns within London’s Jewish population, particularly in light of recent events.

Officials noted that tensions have increased following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, in which more than 1,200 people were killed, and 254 others were taken hostage.

The arson also comes five months after a deadly attack at a synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, in which two people were killed.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer condemned the incident in a statement on Monday, describing it as a serious act of antisemitic violence.

“This is a deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack,” Starmer said. “My thoughts are with the Jewish community who are waking up this morning to this horrific news. Antisemitism has no place in our society.”

Authorities have not announced any arrests as of Monday, and the investigation remains ongoing.
